Wednesday evening the San Diego Scottish Rite hosted the 22nd annual Law Enforcement Officer of the Year awards. Every agency in the county was represented including the Harbor Patrol, Campus police and the District attorney’s office. The individual agencies submit their nominee to the Scottish Rite committee, and each officer receives a plaque honoring their accomplishments. The top officer is selected from this group. Chief Shelly Zimmerman of the San Diego Police Department was the guest speaker for the evening. Congratulations to Officer Charles “Monty” Stevens of National City Police Department…the Scottish Rites Officer of the Year! Not Only did tonight’s stated meeting at Al Bahr Shrine have a Fifty year Shriner pin presentation to Illustrious Melvin B. Stein past potentate, and a sixty year DeMolay membership to Illustrious Robert Powell past potentate…Illustrious George Geanoulis current potentate received a check for five thousand dollars as a donation towards the building fund established for the new Shriners Hospital for Children in Pasadena, California…. from Tom Hom a sixty three year Shriner…To top it off the San Diego Scottish Rite was also honored by the Shrine. We in Southern California are truly Blessed with a close working relationship between the two bodies…. What a great evening to be a Shriner, a Scottish Rite member and a Mason!
